A cricket ball has been developed which can measure its own speed and display the ball speed measurement on the tiny LCD screen on one side, it also comes with a inbuilt long lasting  battery. Until now radar guns have been used to measure the bowling speeds of bowler and there’s always been a curiosity among the cricket fans in deciding the “world’s faster bowler “, with the new Speedsensor measuring technology inside the ball itself it might become possible to get the accurate speed measurement and thereby giving the crown to the one who deserves it.

How it works:

The inbuilt Speedsensor measures the speed of bowl between the time when it first gets released from the bowler hand and until it hits something(preferably nets) whereas the Radar gun reads out the speed between the point when the bowl gets released from bowlers hand and strikes the pitch.

Well the ball in question is not for actual cricket its just meant for measurement purposes, the manufacturers claim that the ball sensors could get damaged if hit hard directly by the cricket bat so its only meant for measuing speeds on the nets only.

It comes with a three year battery life with price tag of US $45( around Rs 1800)

Power strip monitors your usage, makes you feel bad

Energy conservation and gadgetphilia are tough to combine, but this Power Cost Controller power strip might be just the ticket for those looking to monitor — and potentially cut back on — their power usage. The strip’s display counts kilowatt-hour power usage and tracks by hour, week, month, and year. It also monitors line quality with voltage, line frequency, and power factor readings. We’re just not sure if we really want to know how much power we’re using, but if you’re ready for the bad news, the strip is $99 and available now.

AMD says post-Phenom CPUs will be “completely different,” 100 laptops to launch with Puma

Although most of the attention in the increasingly-competitive CPU market has been focused on Intel and newcomer NVIDIA lately, AMD’s still in it to win it, and it looks like it’s taking some bold moves. First up, the company says over 100 laptop designs based on the new Puma mobile platform are being developed for delivery in June, over twice as many as it’s had in the past. AMD’s touting Puma’s Hybrid Graphics mode that allows the system to intelligently switch between a Radeon HD3400 and integrated graphics for max power-savings, so it’ll be interesting to see how the system stacks up against Intel’s Atom and VIA’s Isaiahlike NVIDIA, AMD seems to be betting that consumers care more about graphics than raw horsepower.

That bet might also explain why AMD’s technical director of sales and marketing Guiseppe Amato also recently told CustomPC that its next generation of chips will look “completely different” than Phenom, and that it will be capable of solving “problems that today we think can never be addressed by hardware.” That’s a pretty bold claim — the whole processor market is getting pretty boastful lately, have you noticed? — but we’re at a loss to explain what it means. Any ideas?

Modular, shape-shifting robots get right back up to creep you out

We’ve seen a number of modular, reassembling robots already, but that doesn’t make ‘em any less unnerving, especially when we see them doing their thing on video. As you can see for yourself after the break, this latest batch of bots from the University of Pennsylvania seem to be capable enough, with them able to be kicked apart and find their way back together again, albeit somewhat slowly. That’s done with the aid of a camera that seeks out the unique blinkin’ lights of another robot, which it is able to dock with using some magnets and then start the search for another bot all over again, eventually forming into a slightly unstable walking robot (be sure to stick with video ’till the end for that).
