Elonex ONE toyed with on video
Sure enough, that 100 quid laptop we heard about early last week is already making the rounds, as the BBC caught up with the ONE at The Education Show in Birmingham, England. Granted, this thing is far from stylish (okay, so it’s downright ugly), but it’s hard to expect too much more given the ultra-low price tag. Satisfy your curiosity by checking out a minute long clip of the unit in action — go on, it’s right there in the read link.

USB 3.0 show off at CES 2008
Not long, USB 2.0 will no longer install in your PC anymore because USB 3.0 is coming and spotted at CES 2008 in Vegas. With speeds of 4.8 Gbit/s (600 MB/s), and a powering system which intelligently cuts the juice when you’re not using a device, we have a feeling you’ll want. Too bad we […]

Too bad we all have to wait till 2010, 2 years more till we can use USB 3.0.

SanDisk does up 8GB Cruzer Fleur USB drive for the ladies
Filed under: Storage
Our feminist theory classes in college left us in the mindset that lady-tailored devices can probably do better than pink, but hey, if you’re looking for something retractable with U3 and 8GB of storage, SanDisk just added this new $80 Cruzer Fleur to their lineup.

Magnetic and NEC partner to deliver 3D sans glasses
Filed under: Displays, HDTV
While calling it the holy grail of 3D may be a stretch, there’s no denying that the technology has been largely held back and (rightfully) seen as a gimmick due to the whole “unsightly glasses” requirement. Granted, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of 3D being experienced sans goggles, but the newfangled agreement between Magnetic and NEC could deliver just that to a display near you very soon. Reportedly, the duo is off demonstrating a 57-inch Enabl3D display at the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas, and while this iteration is admittedly aimed at commercial users, the promise of seeing imagery “pop more than a foot off the screen without the use of any special glasses” sure sounds intriguing. No word on when this stuff will be coming to everyday users, but don’t be shocked to see marketers coming up with new ways to grab your attention (and frighten the young) with this in the near future.

At Las Vegas CES, Alienware introduce their new curved DLP display that will be available in the second half of the year. The picture above is just the late engineering prototype; everything from the internals to the casing is probably going to change. There are four LED-backlit DLP projectors inside, which explains the lines in the image above, but the final version will show a seamless image. The ideal viewing position is directly in the middle at about two feet away. That’s when the image seamlessly appears to wrap all the way around your vision, and it’s just as sweet as you’d expect. This is probably the best monitor for games like 3D shooting, racing, etc. Pricing information is still infuriatingly non-specific: the best we got was “more than a 17-inch flat panel and less than a Kia.”

Asus U2E gets unboxed
Although we’d been told that the hot Asus U2E ultraportable was delayed so the company could launch several products at once, it looks like the crew at PC Perspective managed to get their hands on one and do the requisite unboxing. No word on how the lil’ scamp runs with that ULV Core Duo, but it looks just as slick as ever, and we’re digging that satchel case it comes with — check it all out at the read link.
